Memory

Memory acts as a Third Culture.

I started a program for myself. A pattern soon evolved. I vowed to make a portrait of Barthes every time we had a class - this was my logic (my parentheses) and my structure. I wanted to use these drawings for something knowing they would become a collection of sorts.

I love collecting.

One time I was unable to cat nutritional supplements make it to class, so I drew Monsieur Roland by memory. The memory of Barthes shows his features exaggerated - i always noticed how he was almost smiling in his photo on the back of each book, so he is here, smiling even more. I got used to drawing him while looking at the reference photograph.

About 10 years ago, my father gave me a book called The Zen of Drawing - where i learned that drawing is about seeing the object and not drawing it from memory...This is not a drawing from memory, rather a drawing from my mind's eye. I like his wavy hair.
