oh my god, this one is so good! my brain says to me. why? because it resembles Barthes as your eyes would see? I note all imperfections and take them with me. Why do we want to render life as it is? Why is that the measurement of quality?
I am trying to breathe life into the dead when drawing this way - as a broken bone never regains the same strength after the injury. This lacks the true grit and essence of Barthes.
It is kind of creepy to think of this. But, it reminds me to reawaken my senses. What did Barthes smell like? Was there an airplane flying over his studio at this moment in time? I can only imagine.
I take this approach when I travel. I try to remember smells, sounds, and tastes. As a photographer, I've begun to put my camera down and make images with my mind. To quote Toni Morrison who says this best:
"At some point in herbal nutritional supplement for dog life the world's beauty becomes enough. You don't need to photograph, paint, or even remember it. It is enough. No record of it needs to be kept and you don't need someone to share it with or tell it to. When that happens - that letting go - you let go because you can."
